Resource

St. Edward was the first Catholic school in the state to have a Resource teacher, and so we consider St. Edward to be the leader in providing Catholic education to students with special learning needs. We believe that all Catholic children should be given the opportunity to attend a parochial school and receive a faith-based education. Resource provides students an additional opportunity to practice reading, phonics, and math skills.

We use a team approach that involves all of our teachers and staff. We also coordinate services with LRSD and Tri-District Early Childhood Programs for speech therapy, as well as private occupational and physical therapists.

Our resource teacher, Mrs. Patty James has taught for 19 years, including 12 at St. Edward. She holds a master's degree in Special Education and is certified in both Special Education and Elementary Education.

St. Edward strives to look at each child as a unique individual. Admission to the Resource program is granted on a case-by-case basis through review of class performance, standardized test scores and teacher recommendation. We believe we are meeting the needs of a student with special needs when the child demonstrates continued academic and social progress.
