- Parochial Athletic League Rules
Athletics
The Catholic Schools of the city of Little Rock participate in their own Parochial League. The purpose of the Parochial League is to provide an opportunity for all interested students to use the physical talents that God has given them and experience the Christian values that can be found in sportsmanship, camaraderie, and teamwork all while improving basic skills in sports. The league was created for 5th-8th grades. However, 4th grade students do have the opportunity to participate on most teams at St. Edward.
The Parochial League Sports are:Basketball
Volleyball (Girls only)
Track
Golf
Cross country
Cheerleading
Football (7th & 8th boys only)
Choir
Students in 3rd-8th grades who play an instrument or enjoy singing are invited to join the student choir. The choir performs often at school and off campus in the community. The choir leads the music for the all-school masses that are held each Friday and on any special holy days as well as for graduation in the spring. December is the big month for community performances with caroling at local hospitals and a performance at the Old State House Christmas program.
Quiz Bowl
Quiz Bowl is a fast-paced interscholastic academic competition in which schools compete against one another to answer general knowledge questions. The 2010-2011 school year was St. Edward's first year with a team and we won 2nd place in the state in our classification!
Scripps National Spelling Bee
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion. Its purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. Students compete on a school level, and the winner has the opportunity to move up to compete in the citywide bee and possibly the regional and national competitions.
Science Club
Science Club is offered to 7th & 8th grade students who would like to have fun with science while furthering their knowledge. Students meet after school regularly to try new scientific experiments and projects and build fellowship through learning.
Student Council
The purpose of the Student Council is to provide students the opportunity to improve their school in the most meaningful ways possible. At the beginning of each year students in 5th-8th grades are encouraged to run for office as President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer.
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS Website)
2011-2012 is the inaugural year for an NJHS chapter at St. Edward. Students in 7th and 8th grades will be selected as members based on their example of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character, which are the four hallmarks of the National Honor Society.
